This week’s WAV comes from a Danish band who began life as Disneyland After Dark, but had to shorten their name simply to D.A.D. when Disney threatened to sue (lest we all get the band confused with the themepark and cost Disney any of their precious revenues they can spend to promote their next brat star). Truth is, their 1988 US debut “No Fuel Left For the Pilgrims” is chock full of swingin’ rock hooks most of the hair bands of that time could only dream of…and a peculiar spaghetti western bent to the sound whatwith the low, Duane Eddy-esque melodic guitar lines which figure prominently in the song on display here.
Always had a soft spot in my heart for these guys, for the music is good and their lyrics have a nice salting of good humour throughout all their albums. And Jesper Binzer is one of the coolest names I’ve ever heard (lead vox/guitar). Enjoy Abysmally…
